About the Ceremony
What is an Induction Ceremony?The induction ceremony is a special tradition to recognize you as a Phi Theta Kappa member and all of your academic achievements. Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society that you are invited into so this is an honor for you as well as a cherished moment to share with family and friends.
General InformationDay - Saturday, October 5, 2019
Time - 11:00am - 1:00pm (Members need to be there at 9:00am)
Location - Student Union East
Clean-upExpect to be there until 1:45pm

What Happens at the Ceremony?a.) Guests are seated by formerly inducted members
b.) New members will walk in the room while the pianist plays the official Phi Theta Kappa song
c.) We will have a special guest speaker
d.) Mrs. Moody will call your name and read a bio about you while you light a candle (symbolizing the torch of knowledge), sign the chapter record book, and receive a white rose from the guest speaker and sit back down
e.) Everyone blows out their candles at the same time
f.) Everyone will sing the PTK official song (Has been around the 1920's and is tradition so please value that fact if you have any disagreements over the lyrics)
g.) Everyone walks out in a line and guests will join us in the other room for food and pictures.
What do I wear?NO JEANS! Dress formally. You are representing the honor society in front of your family, please dress for the occasion.
Ladies – dresses, skirts or dress pants
Gentlemen - slacks, dress shirt with tie and/or coat
***If you have received your Phi Theta Kappa pin in the mail please wear it.
BIO?Write a short paragraph about yourself and your achievements. (Please make sure you write in a 3rd person). It does not have to be all academic; you can include sports and outside achievements as well. This will be read while you are signing the chapter book so your family and the administration board that comes will know all of your accomplishments and that is something to be proud of.

SongThe song was written by members of the Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Cottey College, Nevada, Missouri, and adopted in 1923 as the Society’s official song and is tradition to be sung at the induction ceremonies.
-Click here to for the Phi Theta Kappa Song. Click here for the music sheet. Sorry there is no introduction to the song it just kinda starts into it. Our pianist will add it in and speed it up a little so it will be easier to sing.

We shall have a special meeting on Thursday, October 3, 2019 to practice the song and go over a couple of things. We shall meet for a maximum of 30 minutes in room 564A at 11:45 am.
